...to your regular scheduled program, a brief interruption. That is to say, I had planned another post before this one, one dealing with the idea of Gullveig, and whether or not she is some aspect of Freyja, but it's not finished, and I have to vent about one little thing.
I never thought I would hear it from this group of spiritual people I've chosen to join forces with (hence my joining forces with them), but I do believe someone just said "You're doing it wrong," and nearly quoting Lore, Chapter and Verse. Boo!
Hi. I'm a MODERN heathen. I have a dual trad, for the most part, that is both Germanic and Celtic in its reconstruction. I like to find where they have similarities and run with that. I like to adapt suggestions from the histories, Eddas, scholarship, etc, and RECONSTRUCT them, REINTERPRETING them for my MODERN life (within reason). I do not see why a Yule Feast cannot be held on the evening of the solstice, and the traditions of Yule shared in that hall/hof/harrow/tuath/home, with your spiritual kindred. If one has a tradition that differs from this, one does not have to participate in anything that might remove one from it. And please, respect your group, your friends, enough to make their own decisions and not judge them against the Lore when a proposal trends in a direction disapproved of by you.
And when the term Norse Neo-pagan gets thrown in the mix, with the slightest upturn of the nose, do not be surprised when someone who is perhaps a less "by the word of the Lore" heathen makes an unhappy post in her blog.
Thank you! We not return to your regularly scheduled program.
